According to the ancient Greek poet, Homer, the battle of Troy began when Helen, the beautiful wife of king of Sparta, was abducted by Paris who was the king of Troy.
Near the beginning of the war, the Greeks were winning, gaining confidence that the war would be over within a matter of weeks. However, they were very wrong. It last more than 9 years.
The first hero to die was Patroclus, the friend and sword brother of invincible Achilles. But Achilles refused to fight because he had an argument with the high king, Agamemnon.
However, Pactrolus knew that the only way that the Greeks could win was if Achilles came out and fought. When Achilles turned him down, Patroclus asked if he could ride out in Achilles's armor, to make the Trojans lose heart. Achilles agreed. Then Patroclus galloped out into the fray, and the Trojans all thought he was the immortal Achilles.
A young Trojan warrior pulled off Pactrolus helmet. The Trojans realized that it was not Achilles. They had no more fear then and killed Pactrolus ruthlessly.
Achilles went mad with grief. He tore at his hair and wept. He then swore that he would only live to kill Hector, the Trojan War leader, who had killed Patroclus, and who was also Paris's own brother. He did kill Hector, and then dragged his body all around the battle field.
In the end, the Trojans were defeated after they took in the wooden horse as they thought complete victory was in their hand.
